TUITION & MATERIALS Tuition is $50 per hour. One eleven week session includes private & group lessons, recitals, and one make-up lesson. Sessions will be $250 for thirty minute private lessons and $375 for 45 minute private lessons. In addition to the time I spend directly with each child in the lesson, your tuition also pays for lesson planning, learning, and organizing the best possible ways to educate each child. Your materials account will carry over from the previous year, and I will continue to bill this account for an additional $35 should it fall below $10.
MAKE UP LESSONS Regular lesson attendance is an important discipline in a child’s development. However, unexpected absences due to inclement weather, illness and family emergencies do occur. To help offset these absences, each student will receive one free make up lesson at the end of each session for any of the above reasons. You may also choose to try and swap lesson times with another student. A swap list will be made available once the new schedule is complete.
PRACTICE & PARTICIPATION Daily practice and listening is expected of each student. While the length of each practice session may vary depending on daily schedules, daily practice is essential to regular progress. Remember, routines reduce resistance! Generally speaking, students who have begun notereading or are in Suzuki book 2 and above should practice approximately one hour each day, divided into: 20 minutes for notereading, 10 minutes for scales, 30 minutes for review & working Suzuki pieces. Students in Suzuki book 1 who are not notereading should ask me for specific guidelines. One hour per day should be devoted to listening. This listening is passive, unless otherwise assigned. Passive listening means your child can be doing something else (riding in the car, doing homework, eating, etc.) while the recordings are playing. The more you listen, the easier you and your child will progress. Students are expected to participate fully in lessons, groups, recitals, and studio games and contests. Additionally, students are asked to participate in the National Piano Guild auditions.
FOOD & DRINKS No gum is allowed in either lesson location. Many of you will be coming directly from school. Please restrict consumption of food and beverages to the kitchen of the Durham studio. At the end of your lesson, please take a moment to be sure that all trash is thrown away and items like crayons and puzzles are put away.
BUSINESS POLICIES
Payment is by check, cash, or Paypal. You may pay for one session at a time or make monthly payments. Any payment not received by the 15th of the month will be charged a $20.00 late fee. If this continues for 2 months in a row, lessons will be terminated until the balance is paid or other arrangements are made. A $20 fee will be charged to your account if your checks are returned from the bank for any reason.
Credits are only issued if I must miss a previously scheduled lesson and a make up time is unavailable.
Lesson termination Taking lessons is a long-term commitment. Completion of registration includes a commitment by the student and parents to study piano with me for at least one year. If this commitment must be terminated, 30 days notice is required in order to refund advanced payments. I reserve the right to terminate lessons, with 30 days notice, for repeated failure to meet studio goals and expectations. Either way, advanced payments will be refunded for cancelled lessons which would have occurred following the end of the 30 day notice period.
